Nagaur, Lying Midway Between Jodhpur And Bikaner Has A Rich Heritage And Is A Celebrated Tourist Destination Due To Its Annual Cattle Fair.
Nagaur is the administrative headquarters of Rajasthan’s Nagaur District and lies midway between Jodhpur and Bikaner. Founded by the Naga Kshatriyas, it is also known as "Khatwan" village.
Nagaur has a very old history which goes back to the days of the Mahabharata. According to legend, the kingdom of Ahi Chhatrapur which Arjuna is said to have conquered and offered to Guru Dronacharya is perhaps the area of the present Nagaur. The city is believed to have been founded way back in the 4th century. During that time Nagas ruled over this area. It was around the 7th century that Chauhans became the rulers of Nagaur.

Achitragarh Fort
The splendid fort here was built in the fourth century. It has three gates, Sireh Pol, Beech Ka Pol and Kacheri Pol. There are many palaces inside the Fort built during the rule of various rulers. The important among these include the Hadi Rani Mahal, Deepak Mahal, Bhakt Singh Palace, Amar Singh Mahal, Akbari Mahal and Rani Mahal. Besides the Krishna Mandir, Ganesh Mandir and Shah Jahani mosque lie within the fort complex.
Tarkeen Dargah
The Dargah is held in high esteem by its followers and occupies a place just after the Ajmer -e – Sharief Dargah. It is dedicated to Khwaja Hamiduddin Nagauri, who was one of the chief disciples of Khwaja Moinuddin Chisti.
Jain Temples
There are Jain temples in Nagaur which are held in high esteem by Jains. The paintings in these temples show various events in the life of Lord Mahavira and Parsavnath.
Saiji ka Tanka
A sacred destination, it contains the Samadhi of an esteemed saint. It is a place that stands out for its simplicity and is a symbol of communal harmony.
Some other places of attractions in Nagaur include the Cenotaph of Amar Singh Rathore, Bansiwala Temple, Nath Ji ki Chhatri and Barli. Another attraction in Nagaur is the Nagaur Fair held in the month of January-February. Tourists come to this cattle fair from far and near. The fair sees brisk trade in cattle. Besides there are other events like cock- fights and bull- fights.
