City Palace, KarauliKarauli Is Famous For Its Pale Red Sandstone And Is A Pilgrim Town.

Karauli was founded in 1348AD by Raja Arjun Pal and was once the capital of a small state by the same name. According to legend, the members of the ruling family were descendants of Lord Krishna and as such they occupy the topmost rank among the Yaduvanshi Rajputs. Many tales of valour and glory are associated with the ruling family.

In Karauli, you can explore the countryside and a nearby game sanctuary or go for a jeep safari. A visit to the local bazaar will enable you to buy some wonderful handicraft items, especially the colourful Karauli bangles.

Karuali hosts an important festival - the Kaila Devi Fair held in the month of phalguna (February-March) and lies 60 kms from Jaipur. Earlier known as Kalyanpuri, the city takes its name after the local deity Kalyanji. Keeping in mind the danger of frequent attacks, the city was well protected and surrounded by a wall made up of red sandstone. The wall has six gates and eleven posterns.

It has extreme climate. While the maximum temperature during summer season is 49'C the minimum during winter can go down to as low as 2'C.

You can visit the Kaila Devi Game Sanctuary during your visit to Karuali. Besides there are other attractions here like the Bhanwar Vilas Palace, City Palace and the temples dedicated to Madan Mohan Ji and Kalyan Ji.

The Bhanwar Vilas Palace was constructed by Maharaja Ganesh Pal Deo Bahadur in 1938. The City Palace has exquisite architecture, stone carvings and paintings.
